Skin Care Tips

While dermal fillers like Botox and Laser Treatments to diminish the signs of skin aging have become popular, it is important to focus on factors that affect skin ageing and adapt our lifestyle accordingly, as there is a link between overall wellness and skin health.  At Orchid, our approach is to educate and assist you in improving overall health and wellness, while we focus on your specific skin care needs.

some skin ageing factors we can control:

  •       Smoking
  •    Sun / UV Exposure in tanning salons
  •    Lack of Exercise
  •    Stress
  •    Lack of Sleep
  •    Alcohol Use

It is easy to see that there is a close link between skin-health and overall wellness. By taking simple measures and meaningful life-style changes, you can have a beautiful, radiant skin for longer time.

Of course there are internal reasons which are just a part of natural ageing process – like diminished synthesis of collagen and elastin as one grows older.

Smoking:

How does smoking lead to wrinkles? The nicotine in cigarettes causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the outermost layers of your skin. This impairs blood flow to your skin. With less blood flow, your skin doesn't get as much oxygen and important nutrients, such as vitamin A.

Sun / UV Exposure:

We will feature a blog next month to discuss UV damage in detail. UV exposure is linked to skin cancer. So, please wear a sun-screen.

Exercise:

Exercise has many benefits for skin – from toned muscles giving more support to skin, making it firm and elastic to increasing blood and oxygen flow to skin to improve overall health. By providing nourishment from inside you are supplementing the efforts to take care of skin from outside using serums and moisturizers.

Exercise can also help in controlling stress.

Stress:

When a person becomes stressed, the level of the body’s stress hormone (cortisol) rises. This in turn causes an increase in oil production, which can lead to oily skin, acne and other related skin problems. Exercise and meditation can have beneficial effect on dealing with life situations and minimizing stress.

Sleep:

Beauty sleep in no longer a myth I use to justify sleeping in a little longer on some days..Researchers have found a link between sleep and looking attractive.

Alcohol (ab)use:

Alcohol dehydrates your skin and body. It also makes your skin look red and blotchy.
